Taster SUP Session (1hr)

Ideal for beginners to get to learn a new and exciting skill or simply just to have fun!

All Participants must be aged 10 years and above, and be able to swim 25 metres to partake on this session.

Participants must arrive 30 minutes prior to the session to allow for kitting up and safety brief before heading onto the water.

Changing facilities are onsite and can be used by customers.

A medical consent form must be completed for each participant before starting the session.

SUP SAFER

The SUP Safer course at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre is designed for beginners and novices in Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP). This 4-hour course, including a 30-minute break for tea/coffee, focuses on enhancing your safety skills in a sheltered water environment. You’ll learn about SUP equipment, environment and weather conditions, trip planning, and water safety through practical, hands-on training. Upon completion, you’ll receive an attendance certificate, and you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy paddleboarding safely and confidently.

Open to anyone 10 years and older, this course is a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and develop lasting connections.

What You’ll Learn
Our course is built on the British Canoeing Awarding Body Educational Philosophy , focusing on supporting the paddler . You’ll learn to: Choose the right equipment for your paddleboarding adventures. Understand the environment and weather conditions to stay safe. Plan your paddleboarding trips effectively. Stay safe on the water with practical tips and solutions. Upon completion, you’ll receive an attendance certificate from your Delivery Centre, recommended by our course provider.

Course Content
This is a practical training course with no assessment. You’ll learn to keep yourself and others safe on the water, providing you with tools and concepts to solve common issues.

The course covers 4 key modules: SUP Equipment Craft overview, safety considerations, and features Clothing and equipment worn Additional safety equipment Environment and Weather The sheltered water environment Other environments Weather considerations Tide and flow Water features Planning Knowledge, experience, and ability What to expect and what to look out for Where and how to find help Safety on the Water Getting started safely Supporting others Rescue techniques Calling for help, sustaining yourself while waiting for assistance
What You Need to Bring Equipment : Intro to SUP Towel Toiletries + Medication Solid (closed toe) footwear suitable for getting wet (e.g., old trainers) Swimsuit/Swim shorts Warm change of clothing for after the session 20p for a locker You will be given a wetsuit and all protective equipment needed for the session except for a pair of shoes listed above SUP board and kit you want to bring (boards can be supplied if needed)
